We are developing a family of innovative small wind turbines that use vertically mounted sails to generate power, in much the same way as sailing a boat in a circle.
The most striking feature of the turbine is that it is virtually silent. This is because it rotates a low speeds, and produces a high torque output. The large sail area means that power can be produced even in low wind speeds. However, in strong winds the sails furl or close up, reducing side loads on the structure; whilst the turbine control systems ensure high levels of reliability and safety. Have a look at the video to see Tradewind in action.
The first turbine model, the TT18, will be released later this year, and is available to order now. This will be suitable for off-grid applications, either to charge batteries or to provide direct power for water pumping and other activities.
We are looking for small scale energy projects in order to provide long term test sites for the TT18. We are also interested in talking to investors to support our plans for providing power in remote locations in the developing world. Please get in touch if you would like to know more.
